Birth of Jesus Christ
Jeff Noggle - December 30, 2023
Many of the traditions associated with Christmas—such as the Yule log, Santa Claus, and the decorated evergreen tree—have roots in ancient pagan customs rather than in Scripture. This sermon examines those origins and then turns to the biblical evidence surrounding the timing of Jesus Christ’s birth, using the priestly course of Abijah and related timelines to show that He was most likely born in the fall, near the Feast of Trumpets. Today’s message reminds us that while the exact date of His birth is secondary, understanding who Jesus truly is and rejecting customs that displease God remain of greatest importance.
